Seven Questions Every Agent Should Ask
- Which doctors and hospitals do you want to keep?
- What medications do you currently take?
- Which pharmacy do you prefer?
- Are you expecting specialist care or treatment?
- Do you have Medicaid, Extra Help, or employer coverage?
- Which benefits are most important to you?
- Are you comfortable with the total costs and plan rules?
Verify Before You Recommend
Do not rely exclusively on a third-party comparison tool. Confirm important benefits, provider participation, drug coverage, and plan limitations using authoritative current plan information.
Official Medicare Plan Finder ↗2027 AEP Compliance Essentials
Protect your clients, your license, and your business. Review these important topics before conducting marketing or enrollment activities.
01 — Permission to Contact
Follow applicable CMS, federal, state, carrier, and privacy rules for obtaining and documenting permission to contact beneficiaries.
Purchased leads or referrals do not automatically establish permission for unrestricted calls, texts, or emails. Honor opt-out requests.
02 — Scope of Appointment (SOA)
Document the products to be discussed when an SOA is required. Respect the beneficiary's authorized scope.
The 2027 regulatory framework changed prior restrictions on SOA timing and documentation. Do not automatically apply outdated 48-hour waiting-period instructions. Follow current CMS and carrier requirements.
03 — Call Recording
Follow current CMS and carrier requirements for recording, notices, storage, retention, and accessibility of applicable marketing, sales, and enrollment calls.
Use approved platforms and protect beneficiary information.
04 — TPMO Disclaimers
Use the current applicable Third-Party Marketing Organization disclaimer whenever required.
Confirm exact wording, placement, and use based on the marketing activity and plan representation. Do not reuse outdated disclaimer language.
05 — Marketing & Advertising
Use current, accurate, and appropriately approved materials. Follow CMS and carrier requirements for websites, social media, advertisements, flyers, QR codes, and lead forms.
Never misrepresent plan benefits, provider networks, eligibility, savings, or government affiliation.
06 — Educational & Sales Events
Correctly classify events and follow current CMS requirements for advertising, disclosures, reporting, and permitted activities.
Do not misrepresent a sales event as an educational event. Verify current rules before collecting information or conducting enrollment activities.
07 — Enrollment Applications
Submit applications only through approved channels with valid authorization and required signatures.
Never alter beneficiary responses, fabricate eligibility, or submit an unauthorized application.
08 — Special Needs Plans
Verify eligibility for D-SNP, C-SNP, and other applicable Special Needs Plan products.
Confirm required Medicaid status, qualifying conditions, service area, and enrollment verification procedures.
09 — Provider Networks & Drug Formularies
Confirm 2027 provider network participation, pharmacy information, formulary status, utilization management, and applicable costs.
Explain that networks, formularies, and plan benefits may change.
10 — Privacy & Record Retention
Protect Medicare numbers, personal information, medical information, financial information, and enrollment records.
Use approved secure systems and follow applicable record-retention requirements. Promptly report suspected privacy or security incidents.

2027 AEP Frequently Asked Questions
Is 2027 Medicare AEP officially open?
Yes. The 2027 Medicare Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 through December 7, 2026.
When will 2027 coverage become effective?
Coverage elected during AEP generally begins January 1, 2027.
Does every Medicare beneficiary need to change plans?
No. Beneficiaries should review their current coverage and 2027 changes, but a plan change is not automatically necessary or appropriate.
Can I enroll a beneficiary without being Ready-to-Sell?
No. Agents must meet all applicable licensing, appointment, certification, and authorization requirements for the specific product.
What if a client misses the December 7 deadline?
Determine whether another valid enrollment period applies. Missing AEP alone does not establish SEP eligibility.
Can I guarantee a doctor or prescription is covered?
Do not guarantee coverage without verifying current plan terms, network participation, formulary requirements, and applicable limitations.
Where do I get help with an enrollment or carrier problem?
Use the Advantage Plus Carrier Issue Submission page or General Support Request page, depending on the issue.
Can I use Medicare 101 materials at community events?
Use the presentations only in an appropriate, compliant setting and verify approval, event classification, and applicable CMS and carrier rules.
The Season Is Here.
Let's Make It Count.
Every appointment is an opportunity to educate, every enrollment is a responsibility, and every client relationship is a chance to build lasting trust.
Stay informed. Stay compliant. Stay professional. Advantage Plus is here to support you.
